Mark Your Calendars! July 5th at Saint-Gaudens

Dear Drama Club families,

I am pleased to share a development and an invitation with you and your children.

What...?

This summer,  Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site will host its 2nd annual "Cornish Colony Family Picnic Day," with a program featuring creative works in drama, poetry, and the visual arts by Cornish colony artists specifically for children.  The Cornish Drama Club has been invited to produce the program in partnership with Fern Meyers and the Saint-Gaudens Memorial.

At the heart (pun intended!) of the program will be a drama production of The Knave of Hearts, by Louise Saunders, with set, prop and costume design inspired by Maxwell Parrish's iconic illustrations.  This pithy comedy presents a conspiracy between a Princess facing a baking test of her worthiness to become queen and a lowly kitchen knave who saves the day.

Seeking...?

We will be seeking actors and artists, upper wing (including rising 5th graders) and up - including Cornish alumni and adult performers and artists.  Funded by the Tasker Covered Bridges Fund, the program will encourage collaboration with Plainfield performers, artists and volunteers as well.

There will be roles in the play, as well as roles reciting poetry, ushering, assisting with art projects, etc.

When...?

The program will take place on Sunday, July 5th at Saint-Gaudens.  We will hold will an informational meeting in late April (soon after spring break), followed by auditions in early May. Rehearsals and art projects leading up to the event will take place primarily in the last 2 weeks of June (after school lets out).

More information forthcoming by mid-April.  If you and/or your child might be interested in participating, please let me know.

It should be a wonderful program, and how glorious to imagine performing in those gardens while still under all this snow and ice...!

Best wishes to all.
