Expanded programs!

Hello Cornish Families,

We are pleased to welcome a new community volunteer who is offering a course in improvisational drama for our Lower Wing students in grades 2-4 (with possible expansion to grade 1, depending on enrollment).  Larry is an actor and a retired teacher from Plainfield School with many years experiencing teaching drama to elementary students.  His introductory letter and permission slip follow.  If your Lower Wing student would like to participate, please print and sign below (if you have not already from the flyer that went home yesterday).
We will meet as a large group (grades 2-8) for snack & introductions tomorrow at 2:45pm in the Multi-purpose room before breaking into Lower and Upper Wing groups for activities until 4pm.
Would anyone be able to contribute a snack?
Please make sure your child's classroom teachers are notified if staying for Drama is a change from their usual after-school schedule, and please make sure they have transportation at the stroke of 4pm (or other arrangements are made in advance for after-school care).
We look forward to seeing your kids tomorrow.
Best,
Samantha

Dear second, third, and fourth grade students,

I would like to announce a new after-school offering.  I am going to lead a course in improvisational acting.  If you like to ‘make-believe’ then this might be a perfect opportunity for you.  I can promise that you will have a chance to do some things you have probably never done before and I can also promise that these things will be fun.  However, the best way for you to find out what this program is all about is to give it a whirl, so to speak.  If you find that it’s just not to your taste, you can drop out at any time.  There will be a weekly class of an hour’s length happening directly after school every

The only requirement is that you have an imagination and a way to get home.  You will need a parent or guardian to sign this form and tell me how you are going to get home.  Keep in mind that you must be picked up at the stroke of 4.

***Please note that a play performance is not part of this course.

I give permission for my child to attend this class

Here is how my child will get home:

Hope you and your childcan come to ALMOST, MAINE! April 2-12, 2015

Dear friends,

Our show ALMOST, MAINE opened this weekend to great reception.  This comment was posted on the Norwich listserv the morning after Opening night:

By all means, go see "Almost, Maine" at the Thetford Grange!!!!!!  It was simply AMAZING what 7 actors, minimal props, lighting representing the northern lights, and a creative director did with 8 vignette-like stories!  Funny, tender, interesting, a great evening of theater!
-Richard Neugass

We have a matinee today at 2pm (with plenty of seats available, so walk in if it fits between Easter egg hunting and supper) or reserve for next (and final) weekend at:
parishplayers.org

We appreciate your help in spreading the word, so please forward this email liberally and visit us on Facebook  www.facebook.com/ParishPlayers for updates.

Hope to see you at the show!

xo Samantha Davidson Green

(FYI - the show is totally appropriate for middle-school age kids and up.  Our 4th grader attended last night as well and really enjoyed it.)

Mark Your Calendars! July 5th at Saint-Gaudens

Dear Drama Club families,

I am pleased to share a development and an invitation with you and your children.

What...?

This summer,  Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site will host its 2nd annual "Cornish Colony Family Picnic Day," with a program featuring creative works in drama, poetry, and the visual arts by Cornish colony artists specifically for children.  The Cornish Drama Club has been invited to produce the program in partnership with Fern Meyers and the Saint-Gaudens Memorial.

At the heart (pun intended!) of the program will be a drama production of The Knave of Hearts, by Louise Saunders, with set, prop and costume design inspired by Maxwell Parrish's iconic illustrations.  This pithy comedy presents a conspiracy between a Princess facing a baking test of her worthiness to become queen and a lowly kitchen knave who saves the day.

Seeking...?

We will be seeking actors and artists, upper wing (including rising 5th graders) and up - including Cornish alumni and adult performers and artists.  Funded by the Tasker Covered Bridges Fund, the program will encourage collaboration with Plainfield performers, artists and volunteers as well.

There will be roles in the play, as well as roles reciting poetry, ushering, assisting with art projects, etc.

When...?

The program will take place on Sunday, July 5th at Saint-Gaudens.  We will hold will an informational meeting in late April (soon after spring break), followed by auditions in early May. Rehearsals and art projects leading up to the event will take place primarily in the last 2 weeks of June (after school lets out).

More information forthcoming by mid-April.  If you and/or your child might be interested in participating, please let me know.

It should be a wonderful program, and how glorious to imagine performing in those gardens while still under all this snow and ice...!

Best wishes to all.
